Will Drum for Fire.
One of my few "realistic" still lives (composed of sentimental objects). This is an original oil painting on gallery wrap canvas with painted sides that are 1-3/8".
Amusing, I found the question "why did justin west paint will drum for fire." in my web search statistics...
well, the objects... 1) plush elephant with semi-realistic features and melancholy visage, 2) paint brushes as a way to conjure visual music and magic, 3) a heart shaped rock found in the Southeast desert on a grueling ride, 4) a self-made origami samurai helmet that reminds me of the "be a warrior and a scholar" quote from "The Hurricane" (another story of strength in solitude), 5) books that have provided wisdom and inspiration as a foundation, 6) the unlit candle calling for light... so much of me resonates in this piece and you will have to pry directly for more...
