Red-Headed Woodpecker at Sea
This is an acrylic painting on birch panel. This piece marks another era of exploration in the use of abstract backgrounds. The boundary pushing possibilities of the woodpecker were grown further in my mind by Tom Robbin's "Still Life with a Woodpecker". I also enjoy the irony that the vessels wooden material would normally be the object of pecking and would lead to leaks and sinking in this situation.
