Acceleration Station
This piece was created using cut and carved wood, acrylic and oil paints, and a wooden cradled gesso board (with stained 2-3/8 inch sides).
A sense of movement is created with layer upon layer of dripped paint, a sprinting hare, and lengthening arrows. The arrows were inspired by the art work on the side of the historical STAX records building I saw in a documentary.
This is one of the pieces from "Destination Station" show at the Phil Mechanic Pump Gallery (River Arts District, Asheville, NC). Each piece in that show followed the title format " -ation Station" and the building sits yards away from train tracks.
